Why do we love this case?

Boom! Shake-shake-shake the room. The Boneshaker will rattle your sense of reality with incredible value and a sheer density of scary-good flavour for such a skeleton price. Yo, are you ready for me yet?

The only thing spooky about this case is how you get one incredible new release, single vineyard pinot noir from titans of Central Otago worth $65, then you get the other 11 wonder-wines for a mere extra $134. Oh, and the artwork - that’s super creepy. Otherwise, it’s full of delicious wine... a bottle of each of the following, in fact:

SECRET DEAL Pinot Noir 2016

Central Otago, NZ

93pts Nick Stock, JamesSuckling.com | 93pts Gary Walsh | 92pts Cameron Douglas MS | Excellent to Outstanding - Mark Henderson, Otago Daily Times

These guys are one of the big guns of Central Otago. Rightly, this single vineyard Bendigo pinot is chock full of Otago plushness - juicy-as-hell plums, tangy raspberries, seasoned with aromatic thyme and rosemary and particularly peppery cinnamon notes. It’s about as rich as pinot can be, though not lacking a lighting strike of acidity to keep it supple and livey on the palate. It looks at cellar time with a confident smile; this’ll be nothing short of earth-shattering given time.

SECRET DEAL Shiraz Cabernet 2014

Coonawarra, SA

Sustainable farming

This shiraz blend is densely fruited, chewy and rich in spices. But balanced, too. It’s full-flavoured and sumptuous, bright and lifted all at the same time. Chocolate-slathered blueberries, coconut shavings and vanilla essence, all fruit cake dense. The shiraz brings the opulence, with cabernet giving shape and structure. Decent a little while before drinking - once opened up, it’ll welcome you right into its world.

SECRET DEAL Pinot Noir 2016

Marlborough, NZ

Sustainable farming

We’re often found singing the praises of Marlborough pinot. It often surprises people how good it is. It shouldn’t – there’s far more to Marlbs than sav blanc. This wine is smooth and round. It’s full of black cherries, maybe some plums, and a handful of tangy raspberries for good measure. The lively berry fruit is balanced by a distinct gaminess, that’ll come to the fore even more with time. It’s a very composed wine, neither austere nor too shouty. There’s a cool elegance that’s the perfect foil for its rampant desire to please. That’s ultimately what this is. It’s a complex crowd-pleaser. There’s plenty going on in the glass to think about, but it’ll slide down easily all the same.
