According to mofo buyer John, this wine is ‘very cool’ for many reasons. It had just come out of the fridge so I figured the first one out pretty quick... #gifted. But what about the other reasons, John? Second, it comes from Tassie, Australia’s coldest wine growing state, and its chilly climate is famous for producing very cool chardonnay indeed. Third, it scored 97 points from James Halliday, which is super cool given the small percentage of Aussie vinos that manage to achieve this. So if you want to drink like the cool kids, you know what to do, mofo.
“Hand-picked from high density blocks up to 40yo, wild-fermented in French oak (10-15% new), a small portion mlf. This is a lovely chardonnay; its bouquet provides gently funky complexity, and the wine glides across the palate as if it had ball bearing moccasins on its feet. The fruit/oak balance is perfect, the fruit flavours equally split between stone fruit, apple and citrus.”

Our Pipers Brook Vineyard Estate Chardonnay is a deluxe, vintage table wine characterised by elegance and intensity.
The fruit was handpicked while in excellent condition. Grapes were quickly cooled with some small parcels being basket pressed, whilst the majority of the fruit was processed and protectively handled in a modern, computer-controlled Bucher airbag press. Individual batches were then cloudy racked and transferred to French oak barrels where they remained until the completion of primary fermentation. Small portions of the wine underwent malolactic fermentation and lees-stirring in barrel to create a rich, creamy mouthfeel. Judicious (around 10-15%) use of new oak along with aged barrels (1–5 years) has avoided excessive oak tannins being detected as the wine flows seamlessly across the palate.
Some of the country's highest quality and best value wines unarguably come from this wee island, and the average bottle price is higher than any other region. It is probably the most sustainable part of the Aussie wine industry, given its relatively untapped potential and consistency of quality. There's no denying that the Pinot Noir, Chardonnay, sparkling and aromatic whites are up there with the best.
